Student Instructors

GESI student instructors provide participants with a highly individualized study abroad experience, acting as teaching assistants and mentors to students throughout the GESI program.

GES 2009’s student instructors included:

Allie Bream
Allie is a Social Policy and Gender Studies major hailing from New Jersey. Allie traveled to Uganda on the first GESI program in 2007. Last fall, she studied abroad in Oman where she researched public housing, learned Arabic, and figured out how to wrap a headscarf. In addition to her travel experiences, she has interned with the Clinton Foundation and World Relief.

Madeline Grennan
Madeline is a senior majoring in Social Policy and International Studies with a regional focus on Africa. After growing up on the plains of Kansas, she came to Chicago looking for opportunities to explore the world. Madeline participated in GESI Uganda in the summer of 2008 and worked with a team in Gulu while learning how to dance like an Acholi. This summer she is interning at a small faith-based non-profit in Chicago that does advocacy work around public policy and social justice issues.

Andie Xin
Andie recently graduated from Northwestern, majoring in Social Policy with a minor in Chinese Language and Culture. Andie participated in GESI Uganda with ORUDE during the summer of 2007 in Jinja. This fall, Andie will be working for the Chinese Center for Disease Control in Beijing and looks forward to receiving updates from the teams abroad.
